1. Seems like it is implemented. There is sometimes more than 5 gems from a big pile of crystals.
3. Implemented. Look for weird boxes. METAL BAWKSES!
4. Metal boxes. Yes, sometimes they contain gems! Lots and lots of them.
6. Don't big mines work as bosses? But otherwise... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDL6741wq7s +1 to that.
Who would cannon target? The target that is being attacked by drones? Which group?
Let's say we have ONE cannon allowed per ship. Then the targeting problem shows up.
We can attack simultaneously more than 3 enemies if we use left click instead of LMB hold.
So that would make that cannon a separate controllable entity with separate key. Let's say Q because it's close enough to rapidly press alongside 1-2-3 keys.
Then question. Does it have limited ammunition or it works like drones?
Does the cannon has single type of ammo (universal) or three different types of ammo?
How often would it shoot? What would it cost?
Idea? Great idea! I love cannons myself, but I'll try to elaborate
Since we already have drones and have limited space on the ship it wouldn't make sense to have cannon work same way as drones. That'd be just like asking for invulnerable drone.
So there should be a drawback and a major one.
Cannon.
Limit per ship: 1
Ammunition: 50% of your stored crystals per shot.
Damage: x * number of crystals spent
Aiming: Q to switch to cannon mode. Deactivates drone control until pressed again.
Fire mode 1: Left click to fire. Instantly consumes 50% of available crystals.
Fire mode 2: Hold left mouse button to fire charged shot. Consumes all available crystals.
Damage type: The damage should be equally damaging to all types of guardians, but weaker than specialized drones.
However, while it does sound neat, low tier players won't have access to such weapon and would rarely use it. Therefore it would function more like a vanity type item for high level players as of current available content.
However, if there are bosses to be implemented, it may be worth looking at this idea again. It would make preparations to fight boss make sense. Mine crystals, drop off to someone who has biggest cargohold, but won't fight and give him 'support' role, aka 'ammo here!'.
And some players would focus on having medium sized cargoholds and lots of defense to tank the boss by using cannons as aggro mechanic.
Therefore, stand alone: not a very good idea.
As part of some other game mechanic: May be worth looking back, but much much later.
